Bizelo IPS FAQ: How do I set up shared or allocated inventory in my stores?
You might have multiple online storefronts, but you don’t necessarily want to have different inventory in each store. In this case, you want to share the inventory in one store with your other stores. You have two choices here when you set up a store:
- Shared inventory pool – Stores that share an inventory pool will have their inventory quantities automatically updated whenever any inventory quantity changes to any of the stores in the pool. For example, if you have 50 Black T-Shirts that are sold in 3 different stores that each share the inventory pool, then whenever a shirt is sold in one store, it will decrease the quantity available in all the other stores. This means that all 3 stores will show a quantity of 49 in their store after the T-shirt is sold.
- Allocated inventory pool – If you want to make a specific quantity of inventory available only to a particular store, then you would set up that store as having its own allocated inventory pool. For example, if you have a total of 50 Black T-Shirts, but you want one store to have 30 of them and another store to have 20 of these shirts, then you would set up two stores, each with allocated inventory pools. Then, on the Allocation screen, you can allocate your 50 items across your stores. When an item is sold in one of the stores, it will decrease the quantity from its allocation and won’t change the quantities in the other allocated stores. So, when one store sells out of products, the other stores will still have their allocated quantities. Bizelo will keep track of the available quantity across all your stores as well.
In the above example, we have four total stores. Three of these stores share a single inventory pool, and another store has its own inventory pool. In the above example, any update to quantity in the Shopify store will update quantities in the other Shopify store as well as the Magento store. Likewise, any update to the Magento store will update the other two Shopify stores. They are all treated as a single pooled store. These updates will not impact the available quantity in the Retail Store listed above.
You can configure whether or not a store has a Shared or Allocated pool when you create your store or by clicking the Edit button when you mouse-over a specific store. When you do that, you should get the below option:
It is important to note that Bizelio eRetail IPS maintains only one overall set of inventory for your stores for a single company. So if you have some inventory that you only want to make available in one store and you don’t want to see this inventory in your reports, you’ll have to create another company. Otherwise, just create an allocated pool inventory for each store and make sure that each store has 100% of the inventory you want to allocate to that store.
Can I have multiple stores with different amounts of allocated inventory?
Absolutely. We built our Bizelo IPS system around the fact that many people have more than one online storefront. You can set up your stores to sell the same inventory from a shared pool of inventory, where one sale will decrease the available amount of inventory for all stores in that pool. or you can set up your stores to each have their own dedicated pool of inventory, where sales for one store don’t decrease quantity in other stores. See our other FAQs about Shared vs. Allocated Inventory Pools and how to allocate inventory among your stores.
